Colin Farrell: surprisingly eloquent Colin Farrell on taking over Heath Ledger's role (along with Johnny Depp and Jude Law) in Terry Gilliam's upcoming "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus":
"It's not hard for me to imagine that if I ever look back on the films I've been a part of, and the stories I've had a hand in telling, one will stand out as so unique an experience, as to be incomparable. This experience was the shooting of 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus'. The reasons for its uniqueness, sadly, are probably obvious to anyone who reads this.
Three of us had been asked to complete a task that had been set in motion by a man we greatly liked and respected as both a person and an artist. Being part of this film was never about filling Heath’s shoes as much as seeing them across the finish line. How I wish he had brought the film to its completion himself. Of course the whole crew felt this way. And the cast that we joined felt it too. It was this spirit of grieving the loss of Heath, that Johnny and Jude and I joined. But there was also a sense of dogged insistence. Insistence that Heaths last piece of work should not be kept in the shadow of the light of day.
More than anything though - more than the sadness and shock, the vulnerability and un-suredness as to whether it was right to complete the film or not - was an incredible sense of love. A community of people, caterers and actors, electricians and make up artists had been brought together in a recognized sense of love and obligation, for and to, one of cinemas finest actors and most generous of men. It will be this sense of love amidst the sadness I will remember most. Such a gift and an honor, from Heath, to be a part of the trail that he left behind. RIP Heath Ledger x"
Well, shit. ;___;
(While on the subject of Mr. Farrell, I'm really, really glad that Hollywood has given up trying to make him a Leading Man. He's a million times better as a character actor, like the suicidal hitman of In Brughes.) |

Ahaha, Laura Ingraham just committed Godwin's Law arguing against health care reform. She quoted the Niemoller poem and everything!
I must laugh, in order not to beat my head against a wall. Ahaha! Ha! Oy.
Jon Stewart's a bit miffed about this. For the love of God, don't show him any Fandom_Wank reports. |

Drumming diary: Mr. Brightside III I'm having some real problems with this one. I keep trying to play it and I can't for the life of me wrap my head around the beat. Admittedly my practice has been fractured by preparing for the holidays, but still - it's been three weeks and I'm still on the first page (of three). I haven't even gotten comfortable with the first chorus.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's throwing me off so much. I think part of it is the sheer speed, but I'm not even playing it that fast at this point. I'm watching some of the drum covers people have posted on Youtube - it looks like they're different, so maybe I've got a bad tab? Blah, I hate bad tabs.
Ugh. Must be the hormones talking but I'm really kind of upset about this. :(
Screw it, I'm gonna try altering the tab. Hah, does this count as composing my own notation? Eh, probably not. |

Googlesites fuckery Hey guys, apparently Google has decided to mess with Googlesites, and they've completely changed their website-creation page, along with buggering the layout for my (non-bandom) fanfiction page. Dark gray lettering on a gray background, YEESH. There used to be an option for changing the layout of your whole page with one click. Or, hell, selecting a layout type with one click. Can anyone help me figure out the new system? |

Things wot I learned today, in various fandoms. #1: There is only one fandom, and Adam's organizing the orgy. Chris Colfer, if you did not at least attempt to hit that shit, I'm going to be very disappointed in you, young man. (OMFG, TINY BABY GAY + THE DARK UNICORN PRINCE = CAN YOU IMAGINE.) Jenna! Get pictures! *g* #2: Southland will be airing on TNT starting Jan 12! They're starting out with old episodes, but apparently have some new footage that was edited out of the original NBC broadcasts. I caught a promo yesterday and give TNT an A+ for the use of Cash's "God's Gonna Cut You Down." #2a: Countdown to Lambert invading Southland in some capacity starts...... now. (OH GOD, COOPER + GLAMBERT = ??? Sekrit message to dsudis: WRITE IT.)#3: I am one Kevin-Bacon step removed from Victoria Bitter. I'm afraid. (Technically I learned this yesterday, but I'm still afraid.) #4: The online comic DAR is ending! Alas! :( It sounds like the creator Erika Moen is moving on to new things, though, so that's good. Do we have a drop date for the new MCR album yet? |

Hold you all those lonely, lonely times Last night I finally watched the NetFlix-provided Twilight DVD. It was just as lolarious as I expected, but the absolute best part came when I listened to the commentary track. Neither RPattz nor KStew nor the director could take any of it seriously, and I was giggling like a loon. They made fun of Edward's pompadour! His makeup! Bella's clumsiness! Plot holes! KStew demonstrated good taste in suggesting an Iron and Wine song for the final scene, and all of them were shocked it made it to the final print. I feel so much better knowing that I've participated in a great cultural meme. ( Other participatory actions: As You Like It. Coco Sala. Massage. )*Icanhazyuletidedraft! \o/ At least on one story; it's away to betas. I'm going to try to finish the second one, but figure I can always upload after the deadline if I need to. It'd be nice if I knew when we're going to be able to upload; next Monday is perilously close. *My entire oeuvre is now up on Archive of Our Own. I ended up posting drabble and ficlet collections by fandom, with one miscellaneous assortment where it didn't seem worthwhile to deal with a kajillion entries of metadata. When I transferred by Atlantis stories I did some re-reading, and was pleasantly surprised to find out I still like them. I think enough time has passed that I can remember the good things about SGA, instead of the frown-inducing things that made me stop watching and curdled good feelings to bitter. I never even attempted Stargate: Universe, not because of potential problems with female and/or ethnic characters, but because I no longer trust the creative team to respect the integrity of the premise and characters. When they get bored, they ditch everything that's gone before in favor of the new shiny, and I just can't take it. See also: the point where I abandoned Battlestar Galactica. *Winnie was being even more of a scamp and a rascal than usual last night. My sister is away on a business trip, and I suspect there were not enough games of fetch to tire him out. He was pouncing around at midnight, after scrabbling amid the shoe pile under the arm chair for amusement. Silly puppy. Teddy huddled close to my side and sighed for his lost peace. *I wrote out a to-do list yesterday, and it is daunting. Shopping, baking, arts and crafts, ahhhhhh. *Now I just have to get through this work thing the next two days. *breathes deep* Current Mood: artistic |

Ficlet -- Caterpillars -- Adam Lambert -- Gen I swear to God, the Lambert family kills me. They're all so precious! ALSO, ALSO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE FACT THAT ADAM WAS A CHUNKY, AWKWARD TEENAGER? LOOK AT HIM. In that vein, have some kid!fic. YES, KID!FIC, BITCHES. This is inspired by the comments that Adam's dad Eber recently made at an LGBT fundraising event about Adam's wee soccer career. Warning: I don't actually know anything about soccer. To any Lambert who stumbles across this, DON'T GOOGLE YOURSELF. Here there be monsters. |

SGA Santa fics are here! sga_santa is off and running, and posting fics. Already. We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas.... Hung out with wolfshark yesterday. In RL she's a solid, reliable sort with a healthy dose of sardonic humor. Just the type of person you'd want to run comms and see projects through to the end. *tips hat to Sharkie* And I've now been informed that Victoria Bitter of "Bit Of Earth" donation scam infamy (who absconded with tens of thousands of dollars and tricked Sean Astin into supporting the not-actually-a-charity) has joined the HP fandom. Bitter is refusing all donations -- unless you insist. In which case there's a PayPal link. *head scratch* Do I have a PayPal link? Should I have a PayPal link? I mean, if you absolutely insist.... |

Switches to beta mode. When the muse falls silent ... edit. For the first time in years, I'm doing as much beta reading as writing. A friend gave me a newspaper article. The time spent actually writing equals the amount that gets written. I can take a hint. *gets back to work on that comic McFluff* Current Mood: accomplished |

In lieu of real content: puppies I've been busy with work and decorating and writing for yuletide. Something on the radio earlier this week sparked ideas, so I now have two stories begun in two fandoms, but none finished. *hands* Gossip Girl's final two episodes before March (*sniffle*) pleased me greatly with their ridiculousness. I am agog to find out where White Collar will go. Anyway. ( photos and video of puppies )Right now a Highlander episode is playing on my TiVo. Joe Dawson has arrived, and Duncan and Richie just visited Charlie's dojo for the first time! |

Oh well, what the hell. If I came with a warning label, what would it say?
Just out of morbid curiosity.
*****
So, the Adam Lambert segment on Barbara Walters special about the 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year. Short? Disappointing? What the hell was that?
I did get one good laugh out of it when Babs talked about when Adam "came out" in Rolling Stone, "shocking absolutely no one." Preach it, Babs. The dude wasn't hiding a damn thing.

Ugh, ugh, *scours the 'net for the latest episode of Glee* C'mon, bitches, I need my Kurt fix! |

Drumming diary: Mr. Brightside II I'm gonna be giving myself another week on this one - it's a complex song, and I've just realized that I've got change up the sticking in order to play the sixteenth notes fast enough.
At 140 bpm, there's no way I'll be able to play sixteenth notes while single-sticking it, so I'm going to double-stick and roll all of those notes. 'Double-sticking' is when you loosen your hold on the sticks and allow them to bounce on the drum head (or in this case, the hit-hat). The secondary hit, obviously, is not as powerful, but there's just no way I can move my limbs fast enough to single-stick those sections.
That will make it tricky to hit the snare just once on 2 and 4, but I'll have to train my hand to switch back and forth. It also means I've got to retrain my limbs to play the verses, then match the rest of the song to that faster tempo. Once I get the verses (and the breaks, the breaks are kind of tricky) down, the rest of the song should be easy. *knock on wood* |
